  • About ASWAR

Founded by Salem Aljunibi and Dr. Noha Farran, founders of Thinking Art Foundation, ASWAR is Sharjah’s first independent art centre, located in the Base39 Creative District.
Spanning 300 sqm, ASWAR is a multidisciplinary platform for contemporary art, cultural heritage, research, and artistic practice. The centre presents exhibitions and develops workshops, residencies, talks, learning programmes, and research initiatives that bring together emerging and established artists, scholars, and creative practitioners.
Rooted in Sharjah’s cultural landscape, ASWAR creates a space for dialogue between artistic practice, knowledge, and cultural memory, while supporting artists through opportunities for production, exchange, professional development, and public engagement.
The name ASWAR, Arabic for “fences,” articulates the centre’s conceptual vision: the fence as boundary, protection, threshold, and passage. It reflects ASWAR’s role in safeguarding cultural memory while creating space for new artistic practices and contemporary forms of expression.
Through its programmes and partnerships, ASWAR contributes to Sharjah’s evolving cultural and creative ecosystem, connecting artists, academic institutions, cultural organisations, and the wider community.
