About ASWAR
Founded by Salem Aljunibi and Dr. Noha Farran, the founders of Thinking Art Foundation, ASWAR is Sharjah’s first independent art centre. Located in the Base 39 creative district,
Covering 300 sqm, ASWAR promotes contemporary art, supports the preservation of cultural heritage, and serves as a dynamic hub for creative practice.
Its programmes, including curated exhibitions, workshops, residencies, talks, and learning initiatives, aim to foster an ecosystem where emerging and established artists and scholars can collaborate and create.
Aswar, Arabic for “fence,” anchors the centre’s vision. Evoking notions of boundary, protection, and threshold, the name positions the centre at a conceptual edge, both safeguarding cultural memory and opening pathways to artistic innovation.
Through a multidisciplinary approach, ASWAR drives artistic innovation, fostering collaboration, research, and professional development within a vibrant creative community.
