The place is Not a Still Life
Mohammed Al Hawajri is a leading figure in contemporary Palestinian art whose research-driven practice explores place, memory, and transformation. Working across painting, video, and installation, he employs a dense visual language shaped by critical realism, irony, and the expressive use of colour and material, often incorporating unconventional substances.
Born in 1976 in Al Bureij Refugee Camp, Gaza, he emerged in the late 1990s as a formative voice in Palestinian contemporary art. Key projects such as Cactus Borders, Animal Farm, and Guernica–Gaza address trauma and history through powerful visual metaphors, situating Palestinian experience within a global discourse. A co-founder of the Eltiqa Group for Contemporary Art, Al Hawajri has exhibited widely internationally, with works in major collections, and continues to deepen his investigation of place and memory in recent work.

Conditions of Passage
ASWAR
Conditions of Passage
The inaugural exhibition of ASWAR, establishes the centre as a platform for artistic research and production. The exhibition brings together six pioneering artists presenting newly & commissioned works developed within a shared conceptual framework.
Working exclusively in black and white, the works examine temporality, memory, and stratified histories through abstraction. The restriction of colour foregrounds material, structure, and process as primary modes of articulation. Across sculpture, installation, painting, photography, and collage, distinct practices intersect to generate a cohesive field of inquiry.
The exhibition positions ASWAR as an active site of exchange, where multiple artistic methodologies coexist and meaning emerges through sustained spatial and conceptual relations.
The exhibition features works by the artists:Abdulrahim Salem, DR. Najat Makki, Jassim Rabih, Thaier Helal, Muatasim Al Koubaisy, and Dr. Mehrez Ellouz.
Visitors are invited to collect a complimentary exhibition catalogue, featuring artist interviews, highlights of their artworks, and detailed information about ASWAR Art Centre, its programs, and upcoming events.
